Checkmate Artisanal Winery produced only 4 merlots, since 2014. The "Black Rook" comes from the Okanagans high altitude desert of Black Sage Bench.

The wine is open and accessible. Classic merlot notes of black and blue fruits, dark chocolate, toasted coffee, violet, and a spiced perfume. With silky tannins and a long finish. Drink now or hold in the cellar.
